Our History

Fairfax Computing was founded in May 2001 by director Chris Hill, who has many years of experience in the Information Systems arena.

For nearly 20 years we have been analysing, designing, and developing systems that have helped our clients progress their businesses by introducing streamlining and efficiency to their core processes. Fairfax Computing was founded to allow us to offer those services more freely.

Before the advent of e-commerce we specialised in creating business systems. Originally the focus of most of our development was aimed at database applications, but we have moved into the web applications area - providing b2c and b2b e-commerce solutions that are tailored to each individual requirement.

Our speciality is listening to our clients needs, and providing them with the systems that they really need, hopefully with that little something extra that makes a difference to their interaction with the system.

We don't dilute our expertise by trying to offer services that we are not fully conversant with - instead we can call on a number of trusted partners to assist with these ancialliary areas.

Chris has worked for blue-chip clients such as Royal & Sun Alliance, Guilbert Niceday and the Woolwich PLC, but is equally at home working for SME clients completing all aspects of the project lifecycle.

Recently Chris has specialised in developing web based applications, mostly for b2c e-commerce requirements, but with a long standing in the more traditional database and application development sphere, he understands what it takes to mate the two areas together to achieve an overall solution.

Chris has skills in all the following technologies:

  • ASP.Net
  • Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS))
  • Visual Studio
  • XHTML / HTML
  • CSS
  • Active Server Pages (ASP)
  • Microsoft Access
  • Visual Basic for Applications
  • Visual Basic
  • PHP
  • MySQL
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver
  • DataEase

Award Winning!

Award

Back in July 2002, barely a year after our incorporation, we attended the Basildon District Business Awards, at the Towngate Theatre, along with the management and design team from Software First. Software First scooped the e-business award for medium to large businesses.

Fairfax Computing had designed and developed all aspects of Software First's web applications and back end fulfilment software. We had built a system that allowed the quick creation of multiple front-end website brands to be managed through one single back end system - content and order fulfilment included.

The judge of the e-business category, John Howard from Konica Minolta said of the developed systems "Numerous sophistications built into the way their websites function reflect a vision, far sightedness and depth of understanding of the commercial benefits that the technology can bring that sets them well above other finalists".
